Aquatic and Fitness Industry – Professional Development Series

In uncertain and challenging times, key aquatic and fitness industry organisations have come together and taken the decision to collaborate and step up the effort to support engagement and professional development during the COVID-19 state of emergency.

The outcome of the collaboration is Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV) decision to offer free professional development opportunities to anybody associated with the aquatic and fitness industry, four times each week. The professional development will include a range of presentations, seminars and panel events delivered by industry leaders and external experts from across the country.

These sessions will be delivered directly into the homes of industry personnel through a simple Microsoft Teams link. Four streams have been developed and participation by industry personnel is encouraged. The first session will be Tuesday 7th April.

  • Stream 1 – Aquatic Operations – Every Tuesday 11am – 11.45am
  • Stream 2 – Swimming and Water Safety Education – Every Wednesday 11am – 11.45am
  • Stream 3 – Management and Leadership – Every Thursday 11am – 11.45am
  • Stream 4 – Health and Fitness – Every Friday 11am – 11.45am

The intent of the project is to not just offer professional development opportunities, but more importantly the ability for industry personnel to connect and engage during this time of increased isolation.

LSV took the decision to initiate the project, following the standing down of industry personnel employed at Victoria’s 600+ council, school and learn-to-swim facilities. The decision centred around the need of individuals to engage and connect now more than ever. The project also provides the opportunity to upskill and educate ahead of the industry rebuild which will be required following COVID-19.

LSV CEO Dr Nigel Taylor said LSV was pleased to be able to coordinate this project.

“We are thankful for the positive response and willingness of the project partnership team,” he said.

“Our people are our industry and now more than ever we collectively and individually need collaboration, engagement and connections.”

Fitness Australia’s CEO Barrie Elvish said the decision to join the project was a timely one.

“A key component of our vision is to support the industry through engaging in partnerships, advocacy and education. Now is the time for us to make sure we do this to support the industry to the best of our ability.”
