A blended version of the course (including online learning and a one-day face-to-face) is currently being finalised for release later in the year. The final stage of the initial rollout will be the development of the ‘Babies and Toddler’ and the ‘Access Disability’ courses in early 2020.

- Water safety and aquatic rescue
- Role of a swim teacher
- Teaching and learning strategies
- Water familiarisation
- Swimming strokes
- Safe diving
LSV has worked with swimming experts (including Olympic Champion Mack Horton) during the development of the course content, and key industry personnel in the design of the LSV Swim Teacher License. The objective is to ensure best practice information is provided in a flexible manner to enable a clear and supported pathway into the industry.
Andy Dennis, General Manager: Public Training and Pool Safety says the points of difference with LSV’s course will include a flexible approach to learning, an online portal to monitor PD activities and free CPR courses for LSV Licensed Swim Teachers. says.
“Furthermore, a new approach to Swim Teacher trainee hours is planned as part of a broader Industry engagement project,” he said.
LSV CEO Nigel Taylor says LSV’s move into the swim teacher training space aligns with key drowning prevention strategies that are consistently identified at state, national and international levels.
“We’re pleased to be able to support the Victorian Aquatic Industry by offering cost-effective access to high-quality Swim Teacher training, that will assist in addressing the increasing demand for Swim Teachers,” he said.
