As an update on the terrible outcome of the Easter Sunday rescue mission out of Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club, where two of our lifesavers tragically lost their lives, I’m pleased to report that the third lifesaver involved in the rescue, Phillip Younis, is expected to make a full physical recovery.
The club, community and Powell/Younis families have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from you all – whether it’s with observing the one minute’s silence on the last day of patrol on Monday or sending personal messages.
They have been following the social media support from local, state-wide, national and international well-wishers showing how widespread our lifesaving family extends and how deep the respect is for those who put their lives on the line for the community they serve.
A donations portal has been set up through www.slsfoundation.com.au/portcampbell, where you can donate to the families of Ross and Andrew, as well as to the local and wider Port Campbell community thanks to Phillip Younis’ wishes.
I would also like to let you know funeral details, which are below:

Member Support Evening 1st May @ LSV
As well as support offered to those affected locally, LSV would like to extend support for all member and staff whilst processing the very sad outcome.
LSV will host a night upstairs at State Centre on Wednesday 1st May from 5pm, Benestar our EAP will have counsellors onsite and present a general presentation on trauma, self-welfare and the effect such events can have on yourself and those around us.
All members are welcome to attend any time from 5pm onwards, with the opportunity to chat with fellow members, pay your respects and reflect.
The counsellor will also be available to provide individual counselling services to any members that feels they would like this support. These sessions are optional and confidential with individual follow up to be provided as required.
Once again, thank you for your immense support of the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club and its members during this difficult time and I hope to see you at the LSV event on Wednesday, or the funeral on Friday.
