2019 Lifesaving Championships – Individual Award Winners

U13 Champion Athlete Awards

Awarded to the most outstanding U13 beach and water competitors for that season.

Award Criteria: Competition results in either the water or beach individual events for the season, this includes all State Carnivals and the Victorian Junior Lifesaving Championships, and excludes the qualifying carnivals.

Events include:

Beach Events – Beach Flags, Beach Sprint 1km Run

Water Events – Iron, Surf Race, Board Race

Winners:

Boys Beach – Darcy Winstahley (Fairhaven SLSC)                               

Girls Beach – Pippi McIntyre (Ocean Grove SLSC)

Boys Water – James Leahy (Ocean Grove SLSC)                                  

Girls Water – Fern O’Brien (Mentone LSC)

R & R (Rescue and Resuscitation) Junior Team of the Year (U10-U13 2 Person R&R)

To participate in Junior Team of the Year (JTOY) a team must compete at three carnivals, however participation at all four carnivals is permitted. The award is designed to encourage and recognise participation in R&R at junior carnivals.

Award Criteria: The best three scores from each team will count towards the point score system. The points system is based on attendance, achievement and overall improvement.

Winners: Natasha Rourke and Sinead Sullivan (Williamstown S&LSC)

Award Criteria: Competition results in either the water or beach individual events for the season, this includes all Senior State Carnivals, Bancoora and Cosy Corner Junior State Carnivals and the Victorian Lifesaving Championships.

Boys Beach – Jack O’Brien (Wye River SLSC) and Jack May (Hampton LSC)              

Girls Beach – Sharla Eddleston (Altona LSC)

Boys Water – Oliver Pfister (Mornington LSC                                                                       

Girls Water – Tia McNaughton (Ocean Grove SLSC)

Victorian Junior Athlete of the Year (Fred Westfield Medal)

Awarded to the most outstanding U14 competitor for that season (one overall winner).

Award Criteria: Competition results in both water and beach individual events for the season, with includes all State Carnivals, the Bancoora and Cosy Corner Junior State Carnivals, the Youth Pathway Cup and the Victorian Lifesaving Championships.

Beach Events – Beach Flags, Beach Sprint 1km Run

Water Events – Iron, Surf Race, Board Race

Winner: Oliver Pfister (Mornington LSC)

R & R (Rescue and Resuscitation) Youth Team of the Year (U14-U15 2 Person R&R)

To participate in Youth Team of the Year (YTOY) a team must compete at three carnivals, however participation at all four carnivals is permitted. The award is designed to encourage and recognise participation in R&R at youth/senior carnivals.

Award Criteria: The best three scores from each team will count towards the point score system. The points system is based on attendance, achievement and overall improvement.

Winners: Ava Robinson and Anindo Minifie (South Melbourne LSC)

Maurie Raynor Scholarship

The Maurie Raynor Scholarship, recognising the best Under 19 athlete for the summer sport season. The scholarship is awarded for excellent sportsmanship and lifesaving skills and is presented in memory of Maurie Raynor, who was an inspirational coach to Victorian lifesaving athletes in the 1970s and 1980s.

Winner: Brayden Casamento (Warrnambool SLSC)
