Swimming in Schools

The Swimming and Water Safety Team have been developing resources to support schools and aquatic facilities to increase the swimming abilities and water safety knowledge of Victoria’s primary school students.

Watch this space for our new toolkit that will be released later this month. This will consist of an extensive range of practical resources designed specifically for schools, parents and aquatic facilities. This is your one stop shop for best practice case studies, information for program organisers and access to a complete 10-lesson survival swimming program, inclusive of lesson plans, homework tasks and extension activities. Save this link to your favourites as the toolkit will be continually evolving.

Throughout Term 1, the Swimming and Water Safety Team will be offering a range of practical, theory and webinar based PD workshops, targeting those responsible for organising and delivering school swimming and water safety programs. These sessions will range from a school swimming ‘one stop shop’ (a repeat of last year’s workshop for those that missed out), swimming and water safety education in the classroom (Hackfest) hosted by Dallas Brooks Community Primary School and a 10-lesson survival swimming workshop. Please visit HERE for registration and further details.

Coming soon will be our Options Matrix; an interactive tool which will assist schools to make informed decisions when designing their school swimming and water safety program. Watch this space!

One of the aims of the Public Water Safety Initiative is for all Victorian school students, upon exiting primary school, to demonstrate the level of competency to attain the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. The Certificate is designed to supplement existing learn-to-swim programs. More information on the Certificate can be found HERE.

The Public Water Safety Initiative is funded by the Victorian Government.
