The Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA), National Sport Committee (NSC) and National Office are pleased to announce the RLSSA Junior, Silver and Aussie Barras Development Squads for 2019.
The NSC has deliberated over the selection of the 2019 Development Squads post-Australian Pool Life Saving Championships and wishes to recognise the outstanding performances of our top lifesavers at the 2019 Championships. The 2019 Barras Development Squads are reflective of the top four male and female individual point scorers in the Under 16, Under 19 and Open age groups. The Development Plan to aid in the final selections for the Barras Squads will be confirmed following planning meetings in March 2019 and appointment of the respective coaches and selectors.
Named after the aggressive fresh and saltwater fish, the Barramundi, the finalised National squads train as a group, focusing their efforts on various international competitions throughout the year.
RLSSA is committed to the Australian Lifesaving Team pathway and acknowledges the Barras as an important platform for lifesaving development, recognising the commitment and achievements of RLSSA’s young lifesavers, and as a stepping stone for developing athletes towards the Australian and Youth Lifesaving Teams.
RLSSA is also facilitating participation options at the 2019 Commonwealth Festival of Lifesaving in November, to be hosted by the United Kingdom, and will consult with the NSC to determine the format and nature of our involvement during this planning phase.
Congratulations to all 2019 Barras Development Squad athletes!
