LSV Host 2018 Pool Safety Summit

On October 12th, LSV hosted the seventh annual Pool Safety Summit. With 200 members of the Industry attending, the Summit was intended to review, discuss and plan the future of public pools and aquatic safety and address a selection of current industry challenges. 

Expert industry speakers from across the country presented on a range of key topics in an informative and progressive format. In addition to the release of the Victoria Safer Public Pools – Code of Practice by the Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp, the focus included investigating the use of IT systems to improve quality and safety, whilst saving time and money. Taking an all of Industry approach, topics included: 

  • Code of Practice for Public Pools 
  • GSPO Supervision Section  
  • Improving Facility Operation 
  • Technology and Safety 
  • Lifeguarding in the Red Zone 

In addition, industry awards were also presented for: 

  • Everyday Lifesavers: Callum McLeod, Simon Rohan-Jones (Yarra Leisure) 
  • Everyday Lifesavers: Leslie Robins, Jayden Casselson (Glen Eira Leisure) 
  • Everyday Lifesavers: Vanessa Mendico, Juan Lopez (City of Melbourne) 
  • RLSSA National Safety Awards – Excellence in Staff Development: Leisurelink, Geelong 
  • RLSSA National Safety Awards – Excellence in Public Education: YMCA Casey RACE
  • RLSSA National Safety Awards – Excellence in Incident Management: YMCA Victoria 





Each of the presentations recognised the great work of Victorian aquatic industry personnel whose quick actions contributed to saving a life. Presentations are available to view at
