Funding for Swimming & Water Safety in Schools – A new initiative

Funding has been provided by the Victorian Government to assist Government and Catholic primary schools to deliver the swimming and water safety component of the Victorian Curriculum.

The Swimming and Water Safety in Schools initiative is designed to increase opportunities for students to learn how to swim, and ensure they develop lifelong skills in swimming and water safety. It is anticipated that with this initiative, all Victorian students will develop swimming and water safety capabilities sufficient to achieve the competencies of the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is here to help you, with a new team lead by Jane Hill – Manager of Swimming and Water Safety Education, dedicated to supporting settings to implement the initiative. Aaron French is the School’s Project Officer, and Michelle Ling is the Aquatic’s Project Officer.

Over the coming months, the team will be developing new swimming and water safety resources, delivering professional development and training for education and aquatic industry personnel, and continually supporting high-quality swimming and water safety education across Victoria. Keep up to date with developments here.
