The Victorian Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service was recently invited to take part in the 2017 Australian International Airshow at Avalon.
One of the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopters (Lifesaver 36) and two lifeguard rescue water craft were on display at the six day event, which attracted more than 210,000 visitors.
This is the first time LSV and the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service have had a display at the popular airshow.
LSV Operations Manager Greg Scott said it was an opportunity to showcase LSV’s work and provide important water safety messages.
“Our crew members were able to speak to people about the importance of swimming at a patrolled beach and what to do if you do get into trouble,’’ Mr Scott said.
“We found there was also a high interest from the public regarding increased shark sightings in Victoria.
“We explained our role in managing the shark sightings as well as other roles that we perform.’’
He said the public was also interested in the operation of the Westpac helicopters and thanked them for the service they provide in keeping Victorian beaches safe.
It’s hoped there will be further opportunities for LSV and the Westpac helicopter crew to take part in Australian International Airshow at Avalon in the future.
