LSV’s Open Water Learning Experience (OWLE) and Sink or Swim (SorS) program deliver vital water safety information to Victorian students, increasing their awareness of the potential dangers found in and around their local aquatic environments.
The OWLE and SorS programs both provide students with strategies to not only help keep themselves safe, but also their family and friends while enjoying the water. While OWLE familiarises students with their local open water environments through a practical session, the SorS program enhances a school’s water safety programs by teaching students to make safe choices in aquatic environments.
The water safety education that LSV delivers is more relevant than ever, with a record number of drowning deaths occurring in Victorian waterways so far this summer. The alarming rise in the drowning toll reinforces the importance of delivering water safety education to young people.
Feedback from this year’s programs have been positive, with Judy a teacher from Colac Primary School commenting that “Our students had a wonderful time at the OWLE Program learning valuable skills. A great reminder as to what to do and how to be safe around water”
