Looking to further support your students’ leadership skills? Life Saving Victoria (LSV) offers a variety of development opportunities for members.
Clubs provide inclusive environments, welcoming members of all ages with the largest cohort coming from their Nippers programs for those aged 5 – 13. Nippers is a National Program that teaches children the basic lifesaving skills required to be safe around an aquatic environment as well as developing their skills to compete in surf sports. The Open Water Learning Experience provides opportunities to participate in a number of these activities – you can find out more about the program HERE.
LSV’s Shelley Snow – Coordinator, Membership and Leadership Development says, ‘the development camps in particular, offer pathways and ongoing opportunities to those moving from the Nippers and Surf Rescue Certificate holders.’
The Under 13 camp aims to provide participants with new and exciting activities in relation to lifesaving and basic leadership skills. The three day program also facilitates the establishment of lifelong friendships and networking across clubs.
During the Under 15 camp participants develop leadership and interpersonal skills in a safe and supportive environment. Participants are challenged by problem solving, trust and teamwork exercises which will in turn require the participants to draw upon these skills in their lifesaving careers and also in other areas in their lives.
Life Saving Victoria are excited to be holding the first Under 18 Leadership Development Camp this November. “The Camp supports our youth members who are seeking to take on more responsibilities, by providing activities to enhance their leadership, decision making and motivation skills and resilience strategies to deal with stressful situations”, says Ms Snow.
